Highly Recommended!

Home-grown local boy Daniel Machado’s independent album, a self-described “16-song rock opera,” sets its sights on being nothing short of an epic. The opera takes us on a carefully crafted and surprisingly cohesive autobiography from an idyllic childhood through the trials of troubled teen years and finally to self-realized adulthood. The album delves into familiar themes of teen angst (loss of faith and innocence, struggle for identity, early relationships) but deals with these coming-of-age woes with keen intelligence and maturity, and without any of the tired clichés and petulant self-pity that plagues so many other young artists. As a result, all the intensity and passion of adolescent yearning for expression is filtered through the smart technical craft of a rapidly maturing artist and this combination makes the album at once highly personal without being indulgent, profound without becoming preachy, serious without losing its sense of humor, and artistic without being arrogantly cryptic. The music itself walks a similar line of apparent paradoxes; Mr. Machado’s rock stylings hop along deftly, each track managing to be unique and memorable without losing sophistication or becoming overly pop, being both immediately accessible and yet rich enough to warrant multiple listenings. The tracks are well-produced and executed, and the artist’s soaring tenor voice sounds more confident and clear than ever. Ultimately, the surprising versatility of “Themes In American Friction”– at once a thoughtful existential exploration and a kicking collection of highly listenable rock tunes – makes the album appropriate for a wide variety of music-lovers and demonstrates the creative potential of this emerging artist.

Awesome band!

I've seen these guys live quite a few times and they put on a great show (I'm not just saying that because I've got friends in the band :P). Saw the musical, which blew me away. I wish they'd do another performance so that more people would have a chance to enjoy it. I hope everyone has a chance to listen to this band and I definitely give this 5 stars for just overall great lyrics and music. Good luck Chris and Daniel! I have nothing but the highest hopes for you guys!
