Surprisingly, pretty good

While this karaoke CD pales in comparison to the original, don't all karaoke CDs? This sounds pretty much exactly like the real instrumental, albeit a little less great, but I used it to sing "I'm Not That Girl" for Teen Arts and it is great to show off a person's voice because the instrumental is not overpowering. I won't say anything about the demo people, because they never are great on karaoke CDs, but we don't really need them, do we? We all could sing the lyrics to "Popular" in our sleep! Or maybe that's just me...

Well Done

While the voices used for the demonstration are not the originals or rather anything close to it, they do a good enough job of setting the stage for whomever is wishing to sing karaoke to this cd. The background tracks sound pretty good, and pretty on target. I'm excited to purchse the songs, and sing them with the music, without the threat of Idena Menzel or Kristen Chenoweth's beautiful and powerful voices overwhelming mine.

Mostly Good

This album is all right, depending on what you are looking for. Some of the singers are truly terrible, like Glinda, and Fiyero in some places, but most of them are surprisingly good. Elphaba has a very pretty voice, and is a nice change from Idina Menzel's strong voice, as it is more of a girly voice. It is very interesting to hear the backgrounds, and the background singers are included in the instrumental only versions. I would recommend just buying a few songs, and not the whole album. That way, you can avoid any demonstrational songs where Glinda has major parts, like Popular and No One Mourns the Wicked. Also, on the demonstrational songs, the singing only comes out of the right speaker, so you might consider just moving the balance to the left speaker if you don't want the singer (as long as it is not for an audition) and then you don't have to buy all of the instrumental songs. I was fairly pleased with most of this album, as it is incredibly complete, with just the drawback of Glinda's singing, and though it is synthesized, it sounds pretty good. So, it was pretty good, as long as you only buy some songs, and not the whole album. :D
