iTunes Review

Similar in sound and content to fellow Minneapolis crew Rhymesayers, Doomtree is a hip-hop collective that goes out of its way to be different, taking a unique sonic approach that owes as much to punk and indie rock as traditional boom-bap rap. Live instrumentation, unorthodox time signatures, spazzy sound effects, and overtly personal lyricism are the order of the day, served up by seven core members (P.O.S., Lazerbeak, Cecil Otter, Sims, Dessa, Paper Tiger, and Mictlan), several of whom also have successful solo careers. No Kings is Doomtree's third group album (following False Hopes and Doomtree), and it's arguably the best yet, sporting a dozen tracks that let each member shine. Ideal for fans of Atmosphere, Sage Francis, and the old anticon gang, this is definitely a little too esoteric for many mainstream rap heads, but it's relentlessly compelling if you can get into it. Check out "Fresh New Trash," "Team the Best Team," "Bolt Cutter," and the MC Chris–esque "The Grand Experiment."

New Kings On The Block

As always, Doomtree creates a masterpiece, a Mona Lisa of hip-hop records, that will be written in the history books and will be a regular album on my iPod for years to come.

Boo-Ya!! First to Review this Amazing album!!

I've been waiting patiently for this new album for so long. the self titled doomtree collabrative was so good and this just takes this group of talented artists to the next level. the intro on "No Way" almost reminds me of a misfits hook and from that point i was just like holy cow, this is gonna be something special. and it delivered. dessa, sims, stef, cecil, mictlan, they all have their own unique style of delivering their lyrics and lazerbeak and paper tiger can blend it together seamlessly with their sick beats and hooks. there is not one sub-par track on this album. my personal favorites are "bangarang," "string theory," "team the best team," and "fresh new trash." but really every track is so good!! i've been into these guys for a good few years now and i'm so excited to see them make such a great record and i'm excited to see how they continue to grow. WINGS & TEETH!!

Buy this now.

Nothing like it. Nothing better than it. Smart. Fast. Fresh. This isn't another lame hip hop release with only a single or two. Doomtree delivers an entire album of pure gold.

Hailing from the Minneapolis half of Minnesota's Twin Cities region, hip-hop collective Doomtree spin their MCs' eclectic influences into a highly literate brand of Midwestern rap. Forming gradually as like-minded artists came together, the group consists of rappers P.O.S., Cecil Otter, Dessa, Sims, and Mike Mictlan, along with producers Paper Tiger and Lazerbeak. While the individual members have been putting out albums on their own, Doomtree's self-titled debut was released in 2008 on the collective's...
