(Portrait of a) Master Piece

When listening to this album, you have to remember that it's The D.O.C.'s only album. It's heartbreaking to think of his potential; I mean, if his first album was this good, imagine how great he could have become in time? It's a shame his larynx was crushed, I mean of all the things to have injured it had to be the ONE thing essential to rapping; his voice. But this aside, this really is a phenomenal album, and his lyrical skill really shines. I would say that every track is worth buying, though my favorites are: -- It's Funky Enough: great beat + great hook + D.O.C. = great single -- The Formula: this is one of my favorite hip/hop songs of all time, the smooth beat blends perfectly with D.O.C.'s rapid yet crisp flow. My favorite song on the album by a long shot. -- The Grand Finale: this is a must-buy for any NWA fan who wants even more material, as it features Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren, Dr. Dre and the D.O.C. all on one track. Grand finale indeed.

The Lost Art of Gangsta Rap

is on full desplay here. The D.O.C is the greateset rapper the world never got to now. The loss of his voice is a loss for all of us. Imagine the collabo's The D.O.C and Snoop,. or Em, or anyone really because This guy would raise the the song to Artistic levels. Dr.Dre's best effort by far. The Chronic pales, as do all the other efforts he's produced. Easily one of the best hip-hop/rap albums ever made. Do yourself a favor and buy this album now.

After the release of his debut album, the career of Texas-born rapper the D.O.C. was shattered by a car crash that almost took his life. Although he could no longer rap like he used to, his former producer Dr. Dre featured the rapper on his groundbreaking album The Chronic, which built on the foundation laid by the D.O.C.'s No One Can Do It Better. He was also featured on Snoop Doggy Dogg's Doggystyle. The D.O.C. returned in early 1996 with Helter Skelter, his first...
