Classic Carly

This is a fine example of the 70's singer/songwriter. Carly along with Dan Fogelberg, Carole King, and James Taylor led the way in creativity and pure introspection. The high moments on the record are as good as it gets. "The Right Thing To Do" and "We Have No Secrets" are standouts. But the killer on this record is "You're So Vain." I'm still amazed that most people don't realize Rolling Stone Mick Jagger is singing backup on the track. The story is the stuff of rock legend. Mick was in the same studio down the hall, Carly ran into him and asked him if he'd sing with her. He agreed and the whole thing came together quite quickly. I still consider this track to be on of my all time favorites, and listen to it often. The mystery surrounding the identity of the gentleman she's referring to is still the subject of much speculation. She sold that particular secret in an auction to a millionaire, but defying the album's title, we may never really know the man's name. Apparently there are some secrets worth keeping. As for my rating.. I'm a tough grader, and this record, despite being her best, has some filler. Carly never sounded better than this era. She's easy on the eyes, too!

A Very Enjoyable Album

And one that most defenently brings back memories. This is a good Example of music written by musicians, in a time when they wrote thier own music! There is much more to this album then the mere 3 tracks that were hits, and Ms. Simon does a great job of story telling. She paints great images of what she is trying to tell us in her music. Even if you can't relate, you can at least sit back and enjoy. I know I have went through several copies of this album growing up! Don't pass this one up!

More than fond of this one!

This is probably Carly's best album --- every song is good. Some lesser known but great tracks include His Friends Are More Than Fond of Robin, The Carter Family and It Was So Easy Then. Her memorable melodies and honest lyrics will keep you re-playing these songs for years to come!

Carly Simon was one of the most popular of the confessional singer/songwriters who emerged in the early '70s. The youngest child in an upper-class New York family (her father, Richard Simon, co-founded the Simon & Schuster publishing company), Simon got her start in music as part of a duo with her sister Lucy (who later wrote the music for the Broadway show The Secret Garden). The Simon Sisters had a chart single with "Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod" in April 1964. But Simon's solo debut did not come...
