An important documentation of the 80's

Back to the Future, Eurythmics, neon colored digital watches with a calculator and Miami Vice. Those expressing the brand of electric jazz in the 80's – Weather Report's uncompromising integrity exempted - were more or less victims of some funny traits in this retrospectively pretty remarkable era. Thereby this album cover is no surprise. Chick Corea, a master pianist and great composer, made a few bold attempts in a commercial direction, after portraying the feel of the 70's with his Return To Forever. This album starts the Elektric Band era, to which a whole generation of now adult jazz musicians can be grateful as it was their introduction into the world of creative music. But as an innovative effort, not counting the fact that it is a sort of classic in the 80's kind of way, this album is not all that remarkable. It showcases the sponsoring Yamaha high end gear of the time very favorably, and sure – the trademark sound of Chick Corea is present in all his recordings. Hats off for Chick, and an "ok" for the album with a deep appreciation for surviving those times. Chick has done many more interesting recordings in his nearly 50 years of recording activity, but this is not bad.

This album is just plain great. It has awesome improvization, and just a sweet groove to the songs. Elektric City is the best in my opinion, followed closely by Got a Match? Seriously, get this album if you are in the mood for some good jazz.

Taking the sound of Canadian band SAGA, adding top notch playing, and incredible compositions, CCEB lit a torch for contemporary jazz. This album has some incredible songs--Rumble, Silver Temples, King Cockroach and more! Dave Weckl hit the scene with this recording after his stint with Michel Camillo and all drummer's heads were turned in his direction. Fantastic stuff. A must have for jazz fans and fans of great music.
