Great Collection for Chopin Fans

Ashkenazy is one of the true Piano legends - great performances here. $50 for this vast collection of Chopin's works is a very good price and many are availiable individually. Get the set....

Arthur Rubinstein's true competition

I obviously reviewed "The Original Jacket Collection - Rubinstein Plays Chopin" before I knew of thus collection's existence. You now have a choice and it is not an easy one to make. Both are masters of Chopin; Rubinstein being Polish has the slight advantage, but neither fails to catch the Polish folk element in the music. At $50.00 each, they are a bargain and one or the other is a must for lovers of classical piano. The Askenazy set is a bit more COMPLETE. My piano teacher was a Rubinstein fanatic, so I probably am a bit biased; I grew up in the 50's and Rubinstein was my first love. Askenazy did not emerge until the 60's and never fully replaced the Rubinstein Mystic. I highy recommend either set or both if you can afford them. Rubinstein edges out in the Chopin, they are equal rivals in Beethoven and Ashkenazy is the true Russian specialist.
