a tribute, not Stan singing

I haven't purchased this, although I may some day. I was introduced to the music of Stan Rogers during a Maritimes vacation in 2006. What a talented writer, singer and Canadian! I became obsessed with his music, purchased Home in Halifax, and downloaded everything else that I could find. Nothing of his was available on iTunes in 2006. I am excited to see that his music is now available through iTunes. I have listened to these samples and they are NOT sung by Stan. But these are great songs and the samples sound good. I wonder what's the story behind this collection?

Nice to have a different interpretation, but...

I have been a Stan Rogers fan for over twenty-five years. A new iPod Classic got me to explore the iTunes store. I was delighted to find all my Stan Rogers favorites available, even though I have them on CD. This album, however, was new to me. I've downloaded it and will continue to play it. That said, it just isn't *Stan Rogers*. :( There is simply nothing like his husky baritone with acoustic accompaniment to convey the emotions of the common man and woman.

It pleases me that his music inspired a musical review and I hope others will also continue to receive inspiration from him, but there really is nothing like the original master.

I won't say "Don't buy this album.", but don't expect the same emotional rush and catharsis that a Stan Rogers recording will provide.

Do not make the mistake I did...listen to the preview

As someone who enjoys Stan Roger's music I find this tribute album overwrought and grating to my ear.

Born: 1949 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Genre: Singer/Songwriter

Years Active: '70s, '80s

Stan Rogers came from Hamilton, Ontario, a six-foot-four poet who started out as a rock bassist before turning to folk music. With his rich voice, he used his music to call to life all of the wonder and mysticism of his native Canada. His singing was occasionally mistaken for that of Gordon Lightfoot, but it was huskier and earthier than Lightfoot's, and his repertoire — made up of song cycles drawn from throughout Canada — was also more tradition-oriented...
