Album Review

Basia's tantalizing Brazilian breeze and "Basia-nova" is a sheer delight to listen to. She keeps the same sweet infectiousness which made her debut Time and Tide a platinum stroke of genius. This time she's infused '60s soul and some heartfelt, sparkling ballads, like "Brave New Hope." Her voice is distinctive and lilting, her lyrics interesting, and her production frisky, employing such oddities as accordion and bass sax. Other top cuts include "Best Friends" and a rousing cover of "Until You Come Back to Me." Her disappearance from regular recordings after the mid-'90s (she made a few guest appearances on instrumental albums) was a great loss for adult contemporary music.

London Warsaw New York

Still pure and true - I was looking to expand one of my playlists that currently has jazz/evening grooves and this is a re-discovered favorite. I was a huge Basia fan in the 90's, saw them in concert - if you're in need of crystal clean vocals and some darn good Brazilian-esque sounds to spice up your collection, you won't be disappointed. Download Take Him Back, Rachel for starters, wasn't heard much on the radio, a real treasure. Who knew these people are Polish!!!

luv it!

My family is Polish and I think its great how people love singers form other countries. my dad was playing this in the car but i havent heard it in so long i forgot the name, but i new once i heard it that im in LOVE with this album!

One Could Say This Is Her Best Album...

Basia's recordings are always a party staple at our house, but LWNY is a standout. The production values are superb. Her vocals go from bouncy to vibrant, to Polish-soulful. Brave New Hope is a track that really exposes Basia's vocals on a bare bones level and she delivers a knockout performance. Buy LWNY and Clear Horizon if you're starting a Basia collection.
