Album Review

Michael Ian Black is best known to some for his breakthrough on the MTV sketch show The State from the '90s, and subsequent podcasts and Comedy Central series with fellow The State alum and frequent writing partner Michael Showalter. To others, he is better known as Phil on NBC's Ed (2000-2004) or, at the time of the release of his third standup album, his role as Daniel on the sitcom The Jim Gaffigan Show. Titled Noted Expert, the standup special premiered on the Epix cable network in May of 2016 and arrived on CD a few weeks later. It was recorded at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater in New York City the prior November. Topics include marriage and parenthood, love and resentment, and warranted versus unwarranted "Dickish Behavior." Another highlight is "Criminals," in which Black compares his one-time unexpected arrest with experiences of audience members.
