Album Review

With Yesterday's Rising's Brandon Bolmer replacing vocalist Craig Owens and Underminded’s Tanner Wayne taking the place of drummer Derrick Frost in their new lineup, Chiodos stick to their emo-screamo-hardcore blueprint for Illuminaudio. Bolmer has a powerful voice, and he shares Owens’ range, with the ability to alternate between broadway high notes and a metal wail. Meanwhile, Chiodos seem to have found their comfort zone. They shred ambitiously, without ever allowing their licks to get in the way of the big, emotional hooks.

great band.
but the release date is sorta wrong?
just saying.

The Best for both parties

With the departure of Craig Owens, I (like many fans) had quickly turned my back on Chiodos. Frontman leaves...another band bites the dust...end of story. However, as a long-time fan of the previous work, I found myself compelled to give the new material a listen. 15 (or more) listens to “Illuminaudio” later, I find that my perception of this entire situation has changed. Not only is this (by a significant margin) the finest Chiodos album to date, it also makes it sparkly clear that giving Craig Owens the ax was a cathartic, rejuvenating, and necessary step for Chiodos to take. This album wields a revitalized sound through raw aggression, theatrical overtones, and creative songwriting while maintaining the integrity of what has made Chiodos great. Furthermore, new vocalist Brandon Bolmer has proven to be a stronger and more consistent singer than Owens ever has been. “Illuminaudio” is the best punk / hardcore album to be released in years. If you have hesitated to buy into the new Chiodos simply due to the departure of Owens, stop waiting & BUY THIS ALBUM! This is an absolute must-own for fans of this style.

Awesome Album

I really love the new direction the new lead singer is bringing to the band, Great album. But what the heck is up with only 2 reviews?

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Originally known as the Chiodos Bros., the sextet better known as simply Chiodos (pronounced "chee-OH-dose") — named after an obscure '80s horror movie term — came together during high school in their hometown of Davison, MI, located just outside of Flint. Citing influences like Saves the Day, At the Drive-In, and Queen, the band's sound was a melting pot of punk energy, metal riffing, melodic instincts, piano tinkering, and occasional electronic beats that prevented an easy genre classification....
