Album Review

Classically trained, ex-music teacher Donna Lewis made a major impact in the pop world with her 1996 hit "I Love You Always Forever." The track, from the Welsh singer's debut release Now in a Minute, was inspired by an H.E. Bates novel and spent over two months at number two on the American charts. There's nothing else nearly as compelling on the album, although there is a handful of other solid tracks like the hypnotic "Nothing Ever Changes" and the dreamy "Simone." Lewis has a girlish voice that sounds like a less quirky Kate Bush. The music, played by studio musicians and produced by Lewis with Kevin Killen, has a high-sheen, glossy feel that contradicts the somewhat personal nature of the lyrics. The one song that escapes the overproduction is the lovely piano ballad "Silent World," which closes the record and hints what might have been.

Customer Reviews

This album is studio art

The featured reviewer misses the point. This album works for me, and I see the piano only number as the flaw rather than "what might have been". I Love you Always Forever is perhaps the perfect pop song, and millions of listeners on both sides of the Atlantic agree. "Over production" is a flaw, according to the reviewer, who no doubt searches for the pop album with just the "right" amount of production. I say Picasso didn't "overpaint", Beethoven didn't "overcompose", and Donna Lewis didn't "over produce", but rather used the studio to create an original sound and style that I love. At a jazz club or symphony hall perhaps the reviewer could learn more about art and production.

A Fall Day

My girlfriend purchaced this CD back in 1996.. She left it in my 83 Mazda RX-7 back then.. I listened to it in the fall while driving to college.. over and over again.. it was the best soothing music ever.. taking the backroads to school and listening to Donna Lewis while in deep thoughts.. Now its 2009 and found this album on Itunes.. i had to puchace it for myself again. It brings me back.. oh ya.. I had my wife listen to this album.. She told me that she wanted her old CD back!! LOL!!

What?

I dont understand, this album should have thousands of reviews. Donna Lewis is one of the few people who are original and she has an amazing voice. This is classic work.
