Tom Shear Delivers Again

Travis Galle,

As a dedicated Assemblage 23 fan, I wasn't expecting anything less than greatness from Tom Shear's new side-project Surveillance. The idea that he was going for a darker, more politically driven album was really wetting my appetite. He certainly did not disappoint. For diehard A23 fans, tracks like Rise and Eye to Eye are worthy bridges from one project to the other, the former being an upbeat manifesto, the latter being a doomy observation about the horrors of humanity. But mostly Oceania has a fresh, more EBM esque sound than any of Shear's previous works. Tracks like I Was There, Panic, and Belief are very raw and heavy, not as dance oriented, but much more brooding and sinister. Thoughtcrime and Voyeur are probably the greatest tracks, the former being a hard hitting club stomper, the latter being a direct slap in the face to the NSA. Overall the album is flawless, ending with Homeland Security, an instrumental with samples exposing the tranny of our elected government. If you are an A23 you will not be turned off by the new sound, and fans of EBM groups like Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb will fall in love with this.

It sounds like assemblage 23 b sides

Tjgk87,

Its okay its good just sounds like a collection of random assemblage 23 b sides and i like assemblage 23 more i dont really see the point in making this album id rather have a new assemblage 23 and their both the same genre so why make this .
