Oceans of Dreams Compilation

Wow! What a great collection! Tunes from as early as 1967, and as late as 2013 show what a funky, jazzy, percussive, innovation bassist Chuck Rainey is. Back in 1969, well before Jaco came on the scene, Rainey was funk-ifyin" with double-time fingering, moving bass lines ala Jaco's "Come On, Come Over",…probably showing Jaco how to do what he eventually did. Soulful and always surprising tunes.

While Jaco Pastorius and Stanley Clarke featured flashy, blistering playing and approached electric bass as if they were improvising on a guitar, Rainey's forte has been a heavy, steady pulse and vigorous support, fitting into a rhythm section and locking onto a groove with a vengeance.
