About Ensemble Resonanz
Ensemble Resonanz is a German string orchestra dedicated to the performance of modern music. Based in Hamburg, the ensemble was founded in 1994 as an offshoot of the Young German Philharmonic, a student orchestra. It was the ensemble-in-residence in Darmstadt from 2002 to 2004, and from 2005 to 2008 it gave an annual series of concerts in Hamburg. The group's leader since 2010 is cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, who has performed as soloist as well as conductor and artistic director. Ensemble Resonanz has participated in performances with contemporary composers, solo musicians, choirs, and orchestras, and has worked with actors, directors, and designers. The orchestra has performed at many music festivals in Europe, including the Salzburg Festival, Bach Week in Anspach, the Ultrasound Festival, and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, among others. Ensemble Resonanz has recorded for Mode Records, Kairos, and Harmonia Mundi.
