iTunes Review

This 21-track collection features an entire live performance of The Incident recorded in Chicago, along with other highlights from the band's catalog recorded in Chi-town and London. Considering the high level of perfectionism and Steven Wilson's demanding audio fidelity standards, this live undertaking had much to live up to—and it does. There's very little variance from the studio album. Wilson addresses the crowd; a few instrumental passages extend beyond their station. But what makes the album such a pleasure is hearing the members perform their complicated pieces with added enthusiasm and then feeling the concept hold together; it's no small feat. The remaining catalog numbers include "Bonnie the Cat" (from the bonus disc of The Incident) and "Arriving Somewhere but Not Here" (from 2005's excellent Deadwing). Steven Wilson and Co. take their audience to places few bands could ever imagine—or execute.

Though he initially came to wider attention (at least in the U.K.) with No-Man, his long-running collaboration with Tim Bowness throughout the '90s, singer/guitarist Steven Wilson gained as much of a reputation for Porcupine Tree. Embracing and exploring prog rock inspirations while always keeping an ear out for newer musical connections, thus sidestepping the pointless revivalism of many of the band's peers, Porcupine Tree has created some noteworthy albums and songs over the years, continuing full-strength...
