iTunes Review

Filled with nostalgic tales, sweet harmonies and witty, introspective lyrics, October Road, James Taylor’s 15th studio recording, fits snugly within his discography. In many respects this is some of the best music he’s ever made because of its directness. The songs on October Road feature lyrics dealing with growing older and wiser, the virtues and challenges of family relationships, and the redemptive power of love. The sound is bright and polished, with superb acoustic guitar mixed with strings, brushed drums, horns and jazzy piano supplied by a long list of top-drawer professional studio musicians. The tempo is laid-back throughout and Taylor’s voice and phrasing are as smooth and natural as ever. In short, it’s a first rate offering by one of popular music’s best-loved performers. And at this point no one would expect — or want — Taylor to change his winning ways.

BEST ALBUM.

I can not stop listening to this. (On the fourth of July is the best, Mean Old Man, Caroline I see you with the high pitch piano that goes, "D...B.....D....G.....F#....E.....G.....C....). GREAT ALBUM

Are You Kidding?

What do you mean the songs JT is most famous for aren't even written by him? That's not the case. Fire and Rain is his very best. Sweet Baby James. Carolina in my Mind. Close Your Eyes. Walking Man. Something in the Way She Moves. Mexico. Shower the People. Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight. Only songs he is famous for that he didn't write are You've Got A Friend and How Sweet It Is. And How Sweet it is was made famous by someone else; he mainly just sings it at the end of his concerts.

Incredible

This music is put together so well. Every single song, is just fantastic. I loved this album.

When people use the term "singer/songwriter" (often modified by the word "sensitive") in praise or in criticism, they're thinking of James Taylor. In the early '70s, when he appeared with his introspective songs, acoustic guitar, and calm, understated singing style, he mirrored a generation's emotional exhaustion after tumultuous times. Just as Bing Crosby's reassuring voice brought the country out of the Depression and through World War II, Taylor's eased the transition from '60s activism and its...
