Editors’ Notes

This New York singer/songwriter's third album, Settle Down, broadens her reach without tossing aside the kookiness that won her a mass following in the first place. Nunes’ full-bodied alto vocals and buoyant melodies—generally carried by her ukulele strumming—are rounded out by tastefully applied acoustic bass, drums, and background vocals. Settle Down’s sparse arrangements keep the spotlight on the songs, a nicely mixed bag of humorous ditties, wistful ballads, and Beatles-influenced pop tunes. Tracks like “Comatose,” “Nothing’s That Great," and “Look Out for Yourself” give full exposure to Nunes’ cheeky yet vulnerable persona. Comedic vignettes like “Pizza” and “He Is Mad” are balanced by bittersweet love songs like “Waiting.” Nunes also sprinkles in new versions of such previously recorded favorites as “Into the Sunshine,” “First Impressions," and “Odd.” Overall, Settle Down offers Julia’s loyal fans plenty of whimsical fun while demonstrating substantial craft and engaging honesty.

Sweetness and light with a side of sly humor

Julia Nunes is a fresh breath of air in the music world, and this album is like oxygen for the soul.

Julia Is Amazing

Julia Nunes continues to make amazing music with this album. I remember watching her do originals and covers 4 years ago and the Julia Nunes I fell in love then is still the same Julia Nunes that made this amazing album. Julia is the inspired that caused me to purchase and play my own ukulele. She was the first to introduce me to acoustic uke music. It amazes me how this whole album was purchased by her fans that made this possible. She is an amazing singer/songwriter that I look up to and aspire to be like. Julia thank you for putting a smile on my face when I don't want to smile and for creating such amazing and uniqe music.

I love her

I have every single song by her and have been a fan for a while. The album is all around good. My only complaint is that there are only 8 new full length songs and everything else seems kind of like filler. I love the new songs though. They are phenominal. I'm not a huge fan of the new version of balloons. It is a must have album, I am just a little disappointed by the lack of new material.
