Stunning Instrumental Record!

You may not know Lyle Workman's name, but you've probably heard his guitar playing on various soundtracks (Superbad, Charlie's Angels) or on tour with artists like Beck or Sting. The truth is that this guy is one of the most versatile and amazing guitarists I've ever heard, and this album is nothing short of an instrumental masterpiece. It cruises through fusion-inspired pieces like Ruckus Maximus (truly amazing...truly), Django Rinehart-inspired pieces like "Ode To The Gypsy King" and one of the most beautiful "orchestral guitar" pieces I've ever heard, "Pieds-en-l'air." You can hear shades of Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, Brian May and more in Lyle's playing but, in the end, Lyle's style is all his own, and these songs are stunning. One fine guitarist, an incredible set of melodic and harmonically stunning tracks that will leave you with your jaw in your lap. I promise.

Great Playing and Arranging

Lyle Workman, a great studio guitarist - and now also a film composer, strikes on his own here. While I recommend this album to all the fusion, rock instrumental fans, I think that his previous album, Tabula Rasa, is superior (check that one out if you haven't already).
This one has all the amazing guests (the who's who of studio musicians), but the playing and writing on the previous record was more inspired. Or maybe, this one just isn't as immediate. Very complex compositions and harmonies, quite unique. Also, this album is more brief. Still, there is amazing work here, and many, many layers of guitars, giving an almost orchestral effect in most of the tracks. The first 2 tracks alone are worth the price of admission...EPIC! The production and the tones used are amazing. Check it out!
