Editors’ Notes

Repping for Queens, The Beatnuts had that perfect mix of thugged-out mayhem, drunken humor, and irresistibly funky, crate-digging production. During the early '90s they hit the scene as a production trio (Juju, Psycho Les, and Fashion), crafting beats for a wide array of artists including Kurious, Fat Joe, Chi-Ali, Monie Love, and Common. Their classic debut record, Intoxicated Demons: The EP, dropped in 1993. They stayed busy throughout the next two decades, steadily putting out party anthems for both themselves and others. This appropriately titled compilation features some of their best-known singles, and it's guaranteed to get any house party or dance floor instantly crackin'. Everything on here's great, but "Watch Out Now," "Off the Books" (with Big Pun), "Props Over Here," and "We Got the Funk" are absolutely essential. Untouchable, timeless, and simply fresh, these are true classics from underrated hip-hop pioneers.

After working with the Jungle Brothers, the trio connected with Monie Love on a production job for "Pups Lickin Bone" from her 1990 debut album, Down to Earth. They also...
