About Hannah Ellis

Initially earning national attention for "Officer Down," her 2016 tribute to her slain cousin, Hannah Ellis touched upon several different trends in 2010s popular music. She debuted with a country single, appeared on The Voice in 2015, and incorporated R&B influences into her country-pop in 2017. A native of Campbellsville, Kentucky, Ellis fell in love with music as a child, and once she graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2012, she headed to Nashville to pursue a musical career. She made it onto the eighth season of The Voice in 2015, but didn't last long. A bigger event for her in 2015 was signing a publishing deal with Word Music/Wordcountry in December. The following year, "Officer Down" brought her some headlines, giving her momentum into 2017. That year, she released two singles -- "You Were Never Gone," which was also on the Teen Wolf soundtrack, and "Temporary Feeling" -- and released her eponymous debut EP in October. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
