Album Review

With their fourth full-length release, emo-pop band Fireworks have further refined their rich, powerfully emotional take on rock & roll with the album Oh, Common Life. While lead singer David Mackinder makes his struggles with the world around him vivid in the lyrics of songs like "The Only Thing That Haunts This House Is Me" and "Flies on Tape," his bandmates fill the melodies with clever and surprisingly intricate textures as guitarists Brett Jones and Chris Mojan, bassist Kyle O'Neil, and drummer Tymm Rengers raise up these songs with clarity and purpose. Artful and ambitious throughout, Oh, Common Life may not bring cheer to most listeners, but the passion informing both the lyrics and the music shows that Fireworks offer something genuinely life-affirming despite their dour surfaces.

Stokedddd

Obviously this album is very personal for Dave, It goes through his struggles with the passing of his dad. With him being an artist and his art being music obviously he’s going to let it all out on this album.

It’s freaking awesome and just beautiful all around

A very good album

I've been a fan of these guys for a long time, and their music has always felt relatable. Oh Common Life is definitely different than some of their past stuff- darker and sadder maybe, but I'm sure it fits the themes of what the members of the band have been going through. Musically and lyrically I think the album is excellent- with personal favorites: The Only Thing That Haunts This House is Me and Sound of Young America.

Fireworks will be back!

Gospel was the album of my summer last year and I have no doubt that this band will continue to make amazing songs to cruise to and reminisce about old times. The new song Glowing Crosses offers a fresh new sound to Fireworks, but they still stick to their pop punk roots, this is one release I am more than excited for!!
