Editors’ Notes

Nice and Nicely Done wears its influences proudly: the band’s sound is colored by everything from bouncy, well-worn new wave rhythms and vocals recalling David Byrne and Tom Verlaine, to cabaret pop stylings (à la Sparks or Of Montreal) and sophisticated indie rock trailblazers of the last two decades (Magnetic Fields, Pavement). Sounding both youthful and worldly, the young band explores topics like love and lust with a sweetly naïve openness (the yearning in “Baby, don’t give up on me/experience comes slowly” from “Trust vs. Mistrust” is palpable), and a painful honesty (“This box cutter’s too dull/otherwise I’d end it all...” belies the hop-scotch fun of “Brown Boxes”). Much of Nice and Nicely Done will have you on your feet while listening, but the disco undertones of “Crack the Whip” and winsome hooks of “Oh Mandy” will also have you hitting the play button again and again. Edgy types will dig the clanging, nervous guitars on “Late” and sensitive types will go for the Theremin and sighing choruses on tracks like “Direct to Helmet.” An aptly titled “debut” (they've self-released five or six recordings) from a promising band.

Customer Reviews

um...wow!

i'm surprised that The Spinto Band aren't more popular. Almost all of their songs are amazing. I especially love Oh Mandy, So Kind, Stacy, Brown Boxes and Spy vs. Spy. This is the type of album that you could listen to all the way through in your car and not get sick of. Over all, one of my favorite bands. Get this!

Charming

The Spinto Band have a very pleasant pop sound. Catchy, danceable, and all over enjoyable. Theyre fun and very entertaining live. "Come on we can do it while i'm playing Atari . . .I can save my game, save my life" how undeniably brilliant is that. The Spinto Band is a great purchase.

LOVE.

AMAZING album...i absolutely love brown boxes. every song on this album sounds completely different, as opposed to all those other bands where you can't tell one of their songs from another. if you listened to this album and didn't know it was all by the same band, you might not be able to tell, which is sickk. overall, definitely worth the money, nice and nicely done is an incredible album. viva la spinto band!
