iTunes Review

On this well-realized project, the veteran Christian alt-country combo takes a journey across America via Route 66, stopping for snapshots of ragged Southwestern landscapes and roadside denizens along the way. In delivering these songs, Derri Daugherty’s sweet high tenor contrasts with the gruffer vocal textures of Terry Taylor and Mike Roe, with the three coming together in a luminous harmony blend on “The World Is Against Us.” Lyrically, Old Angel finds a Biblical resonance in recounting the Okies’ ‘30s exodus to California; “Traveling Mercies,” “Dust In My Bowl” and “Pearl Moon” are especially poignant. From the fiddle-driven “Dancin’ On the Devil’s Elbow” to the growling trucker’s tune “America’s Main Street” and the punkified “Wicked Guns,” the Dogs cover a lot of terrain. The album ends with the bittersweet title number, a slice of magical realism with a California folk/rock twist. The band does it all with an air of easy camaraderie and an understated sense of the spiritual. Fans of rootsy Americana will want to take this road trip.

About as good as it gets

With the bar set high from previous efforts, it is a pleasure to report that the latest from the Lost Dogs doesn't disappoint. As one of the best live bands touring the nation, this album came out of a trip the band took across the heartland. Mixing in some Grapes of Wrath with gospel and country overtures, the four musicians hit their mark. Harmonies, great riffs, clever lyrics and just plain awesome tunes mark this release as one of the band's best - and that's saying something. If you can catch them live, do it. In the meantime, gnaw on this bone, and enjoy the music.

The Glory Road

The entire album was inspired by their journey / tour of Route 66 one summer. They camped, played in homes, backyards, garages, and music venues. All the while soaking in the Americana experience that is Route 66. If you get the chace to see them live this summer or any other time you will be even more convinced that they were inspired by their journey through their years in music and the journey through the main vein of la Route 66!

Martin of Hesperia!

This album should be worthy of the Grammys. It is one the best albums that I have to date! I have been a fan of the Lost Dogs since Scenic Route, and I must say that this is one of their best, if not the best work they have put together. PERIOD!
