Customer Reviews

Why hasn't anyone reviewed this yet?

This is a pretty good EP. I liked "Son", "Easy to Be Hard", and I liked their take on "Shooting Star" as well. They all sounded great. I thought "Backstreet Girl" was O.K.. and as far as "Cowboy Song" goes, I didn't get much out of it. I would recommend this EP. I think it is worth the $5, or you could also save a $1 and just go with the first four songs and eliminate "Cowboy song". I think I'm going to go with the latter. Happy "Tunes".

Fun Covers

The debut of Golden Smog. Best tracks IMO are Son (orig. by Michelangelo) and Cowboy Song (originally by Thin Lizzy). Check out the original of Cowboy Song. This EP started the Golden Smog legacy which features interchanging members of the Minneapolis/Chicago music scene. Members of The Jayhawks, Replacements, Soul Asylum, Run Westy Run, Wilco, etc. Fun record, but they got a tad bit more serious in later records with very good results.

DO NOT Leave out track #5!

Are you kidding me? The Cowboy Song is one of the best rock-n-roll songs of all time, and a cover by Golden Smog is just icing. If anything, get just track #5.

The group first came together in the Minneapolis area in the late '80s as a country-rock reaction to the punk and hardcore sounds that dominated the Twin Cities' musical scene at the time; eventually Golden Smog became something of a fixture...
