iTunes Review

On his 1986 debut, Randy Travis brought that buttery baritone of his to a batch of timeless-sounding new tunes that could just as easily have been recorded 25 years earlier, renewing listeners' faith in classic country musical values. On neo-trad standards-in-the-making, like the marriage-minded anti-cheating song "On the Other Hand," the hard-living lament "The Storms of Life," and the steady-rolling ode to the roadhouse life "There'll Always Be a Honky Tonk Somewhere," Travis embodies the emotional intensity inherent in early country themes.

Classic Randy Travis

I remeber listening to this album when it came out and I love it just as much now as I did then. These works are an excelent example of what Country Music is supposed to sound like with the hallmark "twang" of a steel guitar. Randy's vocals are clear and soulful which helps to set the tone of each song. If you are a Randy Travis fan and have never listened to this album or if you are just a fan of tride and true Country Music this is the perfect addition to your music library.

Simply a classic....

This is one of the fifty best country records ever recorded. You can't begrudge some of the new folks their fame, but when it comes to the real deal, Randy Travis stands alongside greats like Hank Williams and George Jones as one of the finest voices and stylizers to ever put their talent down in recorded vinyl. The Way Country Should Be...

Like the Beatles in rock, Randy Travis marks a generational shift in country music. When his Storms of Life came out in 1986, country music was still wallowing in the post-urban cowboy recession, chasing elusive crossover dreams. Travis brought the music back to its basics, sounding like nothing so much as a perfect blend of George Jones and Merle Haggard. He became the dominant male voice in country until the rise of "hat acts" like Garth Brooks and Clint Black, releasing seven consecutive number...
