Reseña de álbum

In a way, this is the veteran duo's version of Fathers and Sons, a meeting of old black bluesmen with young white admirers that Muddy Waters and Otis Spann cut with Mike Bloomfield and Paul Butterfield. John Mayall and John Hammond, Jr. are among the "youngsters" on this powerful statement that includes a definitive version of Randy Newman's wickedly subtle anti-slavery tune "Sail Away." Sonny Terry's trademark whoops are energizing. The repartee between him and Brownie McGhee might convince you they were fast friends if you didn't know otherwise.

Bring it on home to me...

I was given this record when I was 6 years old (1976) and it's still as fresh and homespun as it was the first time I heard it! A great introduction to the folk blues sound, People Get Ready, The Battle Is Over, & On The Road again are sweet social commentary without coming off as preachy while being backed up by some top shelf pickers (Papa John Creach, John Mayall, John Hammond Jr. etc) just solidify the greatness of this record. A worthwile addition to any blues fan's collection! You won't be dissapointed!

Sonny Terry & Browie McGee

Every song on this CD/Album is INCREDIBLE!! I was given this album thirty some years ago and it still blows me away at just how diverse the songs sound (you won't be bored after the fourth song). I totally agree with Gemstar1973's review. This is a MUST BUY for anyone's blues collection (especially Harp players). (John Lee Hooker's Friends CD is another great pick.)

The real stuff

I bought this in a record store on the south side of Chicago as a naive first year student. I asked the clerk to recommend a good blues album, and he handed me this. Years later I still adore this album.

Brownie McGhee's death in 1996 was an enormous loss in the blues field. Although he had been semi-retired and suffering from stomach cancer, the guitarist was still the leading Piedmont-style bluesman on the planet, venerated worldwide for his prolific activities both on his own and with his longtime partner, blind harpist Sonny Terry. Together, McGhee and Terry worked for decades in an acoustic folk-blues bag, singing ancient ditties like "John Henry" and "Pick a Bale of Cotton" for appreciative...
