Having lived in New York during the 9-11 attacks I tried to reserve judgement on this piece till I could judge it upon its own merits , eventually I realized that this would be unnecessary and at least for me impossible as the music and the event are inseperable. The music is emotionally charged, beautifully composed and performed. It stays clearly away from the politics of the event and serves as a glorious requiem; this is John Adams at his best!
John Adam really does a great job in creating such an emotional charged piece to comemorate the 911 attacks and to honor the heroes of that day. This is truly a piece that stands by itself.
TRUE GENIUS AT WORK
Adams is a real artist. The piece is abstract and strange-sounding at times but still manages to strikes a heart-wrenching emotional chord (and not just because of the subject matter) I envy you folks who got to perform it.
