Prince - The Early Years

The new Prince album is probably not going to be on ITunes because of the small split that the artist gets from these downloads. Prince ditched the music companies over a decade ago and now owns and distributes his own stuff. He gets to keep the majority of the money although he also gets a lot less exposure. Presumably, he is still making more now than he did before with Warner Bros hocked his stuff for him.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! For years, I've past on this because his first two Warner Bros. albums ('For You' in 1978 and 'Prince' in 1979), compared to the rest of his vast catalog, are tepid at best; solid outings, but probably the least listened to amongst most fans. However, when one does given them a listen, you realize his gifted talent even way back then. My gut feeling about this release had always been that this one would be even paler than the aforementioned titles since it came before and wouldn't be as polished in production. Also, I had the impression that 94 East was someone else's project and that Prince was only playing the guitar. It turns out on these tracks, like with the majority of his work, he's the whole band too! What's so amazing about it is that it's so far ahead of his first two albums in sound and scope. After one listen of this, I was left wondering why he toned it down on those releases. This is a MUST HAVE for collectors of his music. Highly recommended!!!

His Royal Badness

This albums was the public's first taste of the Minneapolis Genius. He is one of the most influential and talented artist's to ever the touch the stage during past century. His Purple Reign began in the late 70s but took flight in the 80's when Prince dethroned Michael Jackson's Thriller with Purple Rain. His music, his style, his production, his look, his genius and his ability to play over 22 instruments made him unstoppable. His music and artistry continued to develop well into the 90's but it was in the 80's when he reigned supreme. In this very early release you can feel the musical quality of genius that was beginning to shine! In addition to the numerous platinum hits that he produced for himself he produced many for other artists including but not limited too: Morris Day and The Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E., Apollonia 6, Mazerati, Jill Jones, Taja Seville, The Bangles, Sheena Easton, Tevin Campbell, Rosie Gaines, Mavis Staples, The Family and many many more! This album is essential for every collector and music lover alike. It is a tribute to the genius of young man who would become Prince.
