iTunes Review

A Christian rapper down with 116 Clique, Trip Lee hit the scene in the mid-'00s, signing to Reach Records and dropping solo albums like If They Only Knew, 20/20, and Between Two Worlds. On The Good Life (co-released with a book by the same name and said to be his last music for a while), he links with a gang of like-minded highly spiritual artists, including Lecrae, Sho Baraka, J.R., Jimmy Needham, KB, Suzy Rock, and Andy Mineo, rhyming about life, love, and his unwavering dedication to Jesus Christ. Production-wise, it's on par with most current rap music, loaded with big beats, pop-style hooks, moody electronics, and emotional, Kanye-influenced verses. Yet the lyrics are far more serious, addressing issues like abortion ("Beautiful Life") and the dangers of Satan ("Robot"). Though it's perhaps a bit heavyhanded for those not saved, there's a lot of quality music here, most notably "Know Me," "War," and "Good Thing."

Customer Reviews

I'm good now!

So why r people listening to Drake and lil Wayne? Oh yea I forgot they still don't know what the good life is.

The pure emotion of this album is more than enough proof that God is alive and Jesus is working in souls. Trip Lee killed it. He combines passion and power into a magnificent fresh, new sound. This entire album screams Holy Spirit, because that's who wrote these lyrics. Each song is truly a story of its own, with hidden metaphors and messages. Normally the sound creates my first impression, but the words... Beautiful Life, I'm Good, Fallin', Take Me There... Trip has out done himself seven-fold. He has taken the cross and what it means to him, and has sculpted it into this album. Honestly, I am speechless. Christian rap is evolving, and this is evidence of that. William Shakespeare could learn a thing or two, because this is straight up poetry... ... If you have doubts on buying this album, don't. This is the Gospel in music form, and I am blessed to be a part of it. God did work in Trip, and it's so evident... Not to mention, the entire concept of this album is so appropriate to today's age, it's about time someone hit the nail on the head. "The Good Life" expresses our false idea on what it takes to have a satisfied life with what the world has to offer, when all we need is Christ. ... Christ = The Good Life. Trip makes it clear... ... You're gonna love this album.

Another banger

Trip and the whole 116 Clique have been throwing out nothing but fire lately. "The Good Life" is no exception. By far Trip's best so far. Can't wait to see what's on the move next.
