Album Review

By 2002, the American rock scene had seen so much generic alternative metal come down the pipes that cynicism immediately set in when any new bands attempted to join the fold. It is in this environment that Injected's Burn It Black add themselves to the endless supply of heavy-yet-sensitive rockers. But fear not, Burn It Black is actually a great album that unveils a talented group of songwriters awaiting their chance at the mainstream. Much like groups like Local H, Paw, and On before them, the emphasis is on melody and songcraft first, heaviness second. The lyrics don't sink into Gavin Rossdale shallowness, sounding more like Jeff Buckley or Josh Clayton-Felt fronting a metal band. And the music isn't heavy in a repetitive, pounding way; instead, Injected takes the time to build dynamics and melody with their instruments. There is only a small difference between bands who do this well and bands who glut the marketplace, and Injected is one band who rejects the tactics of the latter. There are a few moments that are below the band's talents, including the boring rocker "Sherman," but all is forgiven when the untitled, nine-minute album-closer kicks in. Featuring killer melodies during the first half which only turn into a raging thrasher by the end, the track (which is essentially two songs) is a forceful display of their talents. Marking an excellent major-label debut for the band, this is one of the finer groups to arrive in 2002 and should appeal to fans of catchy-but-hard alternative rock.

Excellant, but missing the best part.

Wow! I remember picking this album up a few years ago and I still listen to it on a regular basis. The entire album has a great rock sound that has sadly been missing. I've been waiting forever for the follow up and hopefully it'll come soon. Do yourself a favor and download "When She Comes", "Faithless", "I-IV-V", and "Misfortune" to get a good idea of what they are about. The only problem is that the best track isn't on iTunes.

Pretty Good!!!

Well this is a lost band! My fav. songs are Burn It Black, Bullet, Faithless, and I-IV-V. So check those out if your interested in buying this album. I cant really say anything else for the other songs i haven't really listened to them.

Just listen...

I find it amazing that this keeps happening to such talented bands, all because major labels find themselves preoccupied with protecting their own projected profits. Injected is/was (We'll see if Grady can pull through) such an amazing, visceral dose of hard rock. They had a rare gift, in that their songwriting intuition was so potent. Their arrangements were never busy or overly indulgent, just big and loud and pretty damn catchy. Please, God download this album or better yet, go buy it in a record store. They deserve your attention at the very least. Here's to hoping they make a comeback in spite of finicky record labels. Find the leaked copy of The Truth About You (their forthcoming album). Some of Danny's more recent songwriting is absolutely stunning. Better crafted than even the most immaculate Fall Out Boy rocker. And a lethal dose of rock cred to boot.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Yet another addition to the plethora of ‘heavy yet melodic’ rock bands that emerged in the early twenty-first century, the Atlanta, Georgia, USA-based trio, Injected, was formed by Danny Grady (vocals, guitar), Steve Slovisky (bass), and Chris Wojtal (drums). All three members had played together intermittently in local bands ever since leaving school. With pop punk bands all the rage at the time of Injected’s formation during the late 90s, leader Grady decided to make a conscious effort to pen songs...
