Album Review

In the two years since their debut record, Come Around, was released, Sing It Loud have done some growing up. You can see it in their promo photos, where in place of Day-Glo colors and wacky hairstyles the group is shown in earth tones and leather with sensible haircuts. The album cover shows the shift too, from Come Around's new wave-inspired design and color scheme to a somber sunset photo of a deserted beach and boardwalk on Everything Collide. Most importantly, the sound of the band has changed from a barely contained, bursting-with-energy blast of fun to a more restrained and warm, often melancholy, almost adult feel. The keyboards have shifted from cheesy synths to organ and pianos, the guitars are less prominent and more layered, the vocals are less adolescent, and there are almost as many ballads as there are good-time rockers.

Another Album... Another Epic Success

Here's a clear-cut rating of each song from this epic sophomore album from my favorite band:

1). "Sugar Sweet" - 8.5/10 - Single off the album... catchy chorus... kicks off the album with a great start
2). "Thunderstorms" - 9/10 - Extremely catchy pre-chorus... slow verses into a powerful chorus... awesome lyrics
3). "Here With You" - 10/10 - See myself driving with the top down to this one... chorus is legendary
4). "Only One" - 7.5/10 - Slower verses than usual but picks up in the chorus... not one of the strong points of the album, but I still like it
5). "Addicted To When You're Gone" - 8/10 - Give this song a chance... had to listen to it multiple times for it to grow on me... great mix of various instruments to create a "different" type of sing it loud music
6). "Shadows" - 9/10 - Awesome intro and slower chorus but still unbelievable... verses are catchier than chorus which makes it unique but excellent
7). "Believe In Me" - 8/10 - Acoustic guitar gives a different taste of sing it loud... makes them vulnerable, but oh so good... pat brown hits some pretty impressive notes
8). "Light It Up" - 11/10 - Comparable to the song "Come Around" from their first full-length album in how good this song is... this song made me smile the second i clicked play... overall masterpiece
9). "Letting Go" - 10/10 - Another slower song but still soothing to the ear... lyrics are better than ever... pat implements his falsetto in the chorus and nails it... third verse compliments the song as a whole... awesome song... much meaning
10). "I Can't" - 9/10 - Catchy song... great guitar... beat makes you wanna dance... another enjoyable song on the album
11). "Wonder Why" - 9.5/10 - The perfect ending to the perfect sophomore album... harmonizing dual-guitars and soft piano makes this song different but unforgettable

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Sing It Loud's peppy mix of emo and alternative pop/rock is created by vocalist Pat Brown, bassist Nate Flynn, keyboardist Ben Peterson, guitarist Kieren Smith, and drummer Chris Lee. The Minneapolis natives formed the band in 2007 after the dissolution of Brown's previous group, the Semester. After only a few shows together, they were offered a deal with Epitaph Records. They also began recording a self-titled EP with Motion City Soundtrack's Josh Cain, which was released in early 2008. Sing It...
