Notas editoriales de iTunes

Only Survivor provides a summary of Bobby Womack’s tenure at MCA, which lasted for two albums: 1985’s So Many Rivers and 1986’s Womagic. During this time, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and Prince ruled the pop charts, and the influence of those younger artists is evident on the songs here—particularly “A Woman Likes to Hear That,” “So Many Rivers” and “Living In a Box.” However, Womack had earned the right to learn from the younger generation, as he laid the groundwork for them. While it is notable that Womack was still relevant in his third decade of recording, what is more remarkable is the consistent quality. Sure, the ‘80s production techniques might not suit Womack as flawlessly as they do his junior competitors, but “I Wish He Didn’t Trust Me So Much,” “I Ain’t Got to Love Nobody Else” and “Only Survivor” are great songs. Rather than simply pretend he is still a youngster, Womack uses his wisdom and experience to bring depth to his works. He has been able to continually adapt because his records have always been grounded on the solid foundation of strong songwriting.

Able to shine in the spotlight as a singer or behind the scenes as an instrumentalist and songwriter, Womack never got his due from pop audiences, but during the late '60s and much of the '70s, he was a consistent hitmaker on the R&B charts, with a high standard of quality control. His records were quintessential...
