Album Review

Following two promising albums, Case tells stories of heartbreak and loss on his third effort, Open Letter, highlighted by "Missing You," a ballad that blends piano and acoustic guitar with lyrics that convey genuine heartache. Case throws some upbeat tracks into the mix with booty-shaking songs like "Sex Games."

Decent 3rd album from an under-rated crooner...

It's hard to believe that this album is nearly 5 years old; what's even harder to fathom is it seems like Case has taken a haitus seeing how his 4th album hasn't seen the day of light yet. That aside, "Open Letter" is the best of his three albums; heartfelt honest love songs run smoothly throughout this album. The highlights include the top single "Missing You" of course, but that's only the beginning. "Conversate", "Love of My Life", "Even Though" and "No Regrets" (probably the one track with a cameo by Charlie Wilson) offer deep meaningful insights into relationships run awry. "Not Your Friend" and "Crooked Letter" are barely tolerable (and the only upbeat, club-type songs) that are easily forgotten when put against the other 11 outstanding tracks. We'll never know if Case will release other album any time soon but "Open Letter" will stand the test of time.

On the latter release, Case wrote each song with a different person in mind ("A Song for Skye" was written for his daughter, while the tracks "Love of My Life" and "Shine" were inspired by the great Stevie...
