Album Review

The two-disc Origin of the Species, Vol. 2 rescues a sizable number of Psychic TV house tracks from out-of-print obscurity. The first disc is drawn from the albums Jack the Tab: Acid Tablets, Vol. 1 (1988) and Tekno Acid Beat (1989), while the second disc features the Ultradrug material issued in 1995. The Jack the Tab cuts are the most interesting, having been issued as a fake various-artists compilation and actually featuring Psychic TV working with former Soft Cell keyboardist Dave Ball and writer Richard Norris. Since the tracks here aren't culled from as wide a variety of sources as the first volume of Origin of the Species, it isn't quite as consistent a listen, but it does capture the group at their acid-house peak, and all of this material has been very difficult to find for a long time.

Amazing Music

I love industrial and experimental dance music. Would have given it 5 stars but I have even better "Psychic TV" compilations (Tekno Acid Beat / Jack The Tab) with work from the same time period. I don't know what is going on with the lawsuits. When originally released, it is true, many of the songs were attributed to other bands. If that was the agreement with the label, then what is being done here is unfair.

Psychic TV draw much of their inspiration from the literary underground, including situationist philosophy, William Burroughs (who was a professed fan), the Marquis de Sade, and Philip...
