A command of the instrument but a narrow repertoire

Lydia Kavina is a master of the theremin as the music on this CD amply testifies and in so far as the narrow range of her classical repertoire is well-executed, we cannot justly complain about her performance. But even within that range, the piano accompaniment often threatens to overwhelm her instrument. One longs for the haunting ethereal strains of the theremin alone, without the pounding piano line distracting us. Most of us fell in love with the theremin from sci-fi and suspense movies and even the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations." It's a shame that this strangest of all instruments is mostly captive to the abstractly classical, often wandering and occasionally anemic compositions on this CD, which this reviewer has nonetheless purchased because it has its moments.

Unique and fascinating! spectacular and original

Crashed into this great album, love the talent, and the uniqueness of it. my favorite track is "Voice of Theremin" and Improvisation" simply ah!!!!!!

Kavina's repertory includes several works appearing in film scores, including Miklós Rózsa's for Spellbound and Howard Shore's Ed Wood. But...
