iTunes Review

Eleven Eleven was celebrated upon its release as another consistently great Dave Alvin album. But Alvin's songs are meant to be played live, and this 2011 concert from Ann Arbor, Mich., catches the band on a good, sweaty night. They work through Alvin's catalog with assurance, including a riveting take on "Fourth of July." The three studio bonus cuts here ("Beautiful City 'Cross the River," "Signal Hill," and "Never Trust a Woman") are nocturnal nightclub blues with Alvin narrating with an impending sense of doom. Note: There are three editions of Dave Alvin & The Guilty Ones' expanded edition of Eleven Eleven. This edition features the Ann Arbor concert from July 2, 2011, and three bonus tracks from the Eleven Eleven sessions, including "Beautiful City 'Cross the River," which was featured in the FX series Justified, but not the original album. The remaining editions are Eleven Eleven Expanded, which features the original album (2011's Eleven Eleven), the nine live tracks, and the three bonus cuts from the Eleven Eleven sessions. The third option, Live at The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI, July 2, 2011, features just the nine live tracks.

See him Live

I saw Dave with the Blasters a few times in the 80's. Then, in the lat 90's I saw him with his own band at a record release date at the long lost Jack's Sugar Shack on Hollywood Blvd. It was great to see him out on his own doing his songs his way. I've seen him maybe a dozen times since, most recently last year with the Guilty One's. You can't go wrong with his CD's or his live dates

Dave Alvin helped to kick-start the American roots rock scene in the early '80s with the band the Blasters, and has since gone on to a career as a solo performer, songwriter, producer, and sideman that's been as well respected as it is eclectic. Born in Downey, California in 1955, Alvin was raised by a family of music fans, and as teenagers Dave and his older brother Phil immersed themselves in blues, rockabilly, and vintage country sounds, collecting rare records and attending nightclub performances...
