a must have for fall

I was a just a young kid sitting in a coffee shop in Morris MN when i first heard Brenda, from Karl's coffee shop to the 400...this woman is always putting out amazing music. This will be my soundtrack for this fall...

Beautiful Art of a Grieving Soul

I didn’t want to write this review in September (2007) when I first heard these songs (in concert, on radio shows and on the album itself). I wanted to wait. I wanted to know what I would think about this album without the live performances and interviews fresh in my mind. I wanted to know what it would be like to listen to by itself, as it is. The reality of the album is inescapable. It is the beautiful art of a grieving soul after the loss of a loved one to suicide. Presented in the order they were written, these songs expose part of the emotional path Brenda has taken after this tremendous loss. Despite what some expectations may be, the album is in no way morbid. There are definitely emotions such as anguish, grief and guilt expressed, but also hope, faith, courage and calmness. While the sparse instrumentation is consistent, each song is unique, conveying different thoughts and feelings, both musically and lyrically. Listening to the album makes you feel as if you are sitting with a friend in a coffee shop as she bares her soul to you. You don’t know what to say, but that’s alright because you are just supposed to be there and listen.

An Amazing Voice With Beautiful Words

Brenda Weiler's new album, influenced by the suicide of her sister is haunting, sparse, and beautiful. The sadness and hope that work through the album are alternatively heartbreaking and uplifting. Brenda's voice is pure and beautiful as ever.

Accompanied by her lyrical dealings of personal relationships and self-identity, Weiler would eventually capture this emotion on her...
