8 Songs, 42 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Sonic Highways is an album accompanying the Dave Grohl–directed documentary of the same name, which follows the Foos as they explore American music's roots in cities like Chicago, Austin, and Los Angeles. While Grohl's lyrics are lifted from interviews with greats like Buddy Guy and Dr. John, the band keep their driving alt-rock sound intact. "Outside" rides a gnarled punk bassline to a cathartic chorus and includes a guitar solo from Joe Walsh, while "Congregation," tracked in Nashville, boasts a Southern rock crunch. With its epic, string-section grandeur, the standout "I Am a River" captures the resiliency of New York, the city where it was recorded.

This is gonna be great

my father was a huge foo fighters fan, he absolutely loved their music and lived for the new albums. some of his interest has rubbed off on me throughout the past 13 years. my dad died early September this year, it makes me sad to know he cannot listen to the foo fighters new album. but i just wanted to say thank you, you made my dads have a love for music and that was something we've shared. so just thank you, and continue making phenomenal music.

Haters gonna Hate

I have read all the critics. “Take us somewhere new” “Shoots for the moon, ends up in mediocrity” “After 20 years they are doing the same thing”…For those who saw Back and Forth you will understand this reference. Dave responds: “That’s what I do…What do you want me to make a $!#@ing Reggae record?” I get frustrated with all these people and critics who criticize them as “blue collar” rock. They are not “Dad” rock. They are waving a banner when no one else will. In a generation where anyone can call themselves a singer because of computers, they are real. Recorded analog. Able to play the tracks live. Exploring new avenues every album. Look, my biggest fear was this album was going to be TOO different. I liked Sound City, but I crave the sound of the Foos. Sonic delivered. If you can, listen to it on vinyl. Drop the needle, turn off the lights, and let the sound blow your mind. Listen for the intricacies. Listen for the references they describe in the TV series. Love artists that are willing to bleed for their craft. If we don’t appreciate them, then they will be gone. A world without Foo Fighters is a world I hope never exists.

Amazing concept.... Going to start a trend, I hope.

Let me start by saying, I don't write reviews. That being said I started watching the making of this album on HBO with my Hubby and I am thrilled to feel more connected to a band and their music than I have ever had the opportunity to feel before. The lyrics and music have more meaning and true value, with the show. I am really impressed. So far two songs and I couldn't be more pleased.
