Canada’s superstar violinist Angèle Dubeau performs live a selection of her favorite works with the all-female string orchestra La Pietà to celebrate their 21 years together. Here they demonstrate the depth and variety of their musical partnership, from a dramatic arrangement of Einaudi’s “Life” to the delightful, folk-influenced Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 by George Enescu, a nod to Dubeau’s studies in Bucharest. There are glorious performances of music by Max Richter, Ennio Morricone, and Philip Glass along the way, each a highlight, while Joe Hisaishi’s enchanting soundtrack to the anime film Princess Mononoke is played by Dubeau with genuine warmth and affection.
