iTunes Review

It’s been 35 years since “Baby Beluga,” but the folksinger’s gentle heart and wild imagination remain intact. A mix of new songs (“You May be a Triangle,” the eco-conscious “Green Dream”) and reimagined classics (“The Dog on the Bus,” “The Lion Pokey”), Owl Singalong is—like most Raffi albums—calibrated for kids but more sophisticated than adults might expect, with passing references to reggae and ragtime, a Pete Seeger nod (“Garden Song”), and a formidable Bob Dylan impression, too (“Who Hoo Could I Be”).

Playfully captivating. A musical masterpiece!

I bought Owl Singalong hot-off-the-press, and couldn't be more pleased!! I truly consider this recording a musical masterpiece, and would not hesitate to encourage any human being on the planet, regardless of age, to purchase this brilliant album.

As a mother of six adults who were raised on Raffi's music, I am a die-hard fan who now ensures that my grandchildren are also fed hefty portions of his nourishing soul food.

I feel privileged to have watched this brilliant artist's talent blossom and mature over the decades. As his raven-black hair feathers turned to wise-owl-grey, Raffi has retained his childlike authenticity, as well as his ability to 'ham it up' with clever lyrics and voice sound effects which children find hilarious, and like to mimic.

Every song in Owl Singalong is delightfully captivating. Each is unique in it's ability to engage Raffi's young (and old!) audiences. Creative lyrics, such as "owling at the moon" and "sunshine and windmills, endless clean energy, and fields of plenty for all to be fed" promote playfulness, as well as ecological awareness.

Raffi's sensitive harmonies and high-quality instrumentation with "real" violins, woodwinds, and the exquisite sounds of various horns, piano, accordion, electric and acoustic guitars make it easy to set the CD player on repeat for endless hours of joy-filled listening and singalong!

I find Owl Singalong to be contagious. This album graciously invites all listeners to sing and dance. It truly lives up to its name!

One of the leading lights in children’s music, Raffi is virtually synonymous with a light, playful style of song and storytelling. Born in Egypt and raised in Canada, Raffi Cavoukian initially launched his musical career in Toronto as folk singer/songwriter, though he would later find his greatest success when he redirected his performances and recordings toward children in the late '70s. In the ensuing decades, Raffi would go on to revolutionize children's music, starting his own label and becoming...
