THE PAC *IS* BACK, BUT SO IS TOWA TEI :)!
Those of us who grew up in the 80's, know that PAC-MAN is a peice of video gaming history. No matter old he gets he always remains timeless, especially his theme song. Towa Tei gives us a suped up verison of the classic, even getting in touch with his days with Deee-Lite, a la "What Is Love?" with dreamy twinkling synths interspersed the unforgettable samples of the actually game. I've never wanted to dance and go to the arcade at the same time. It's a groovy enough to be a club hit but playful enough for those who want to sit back and listen to a masterfully revamped piece childhood nostalgia. Defintely worth the purchase of DJ's and video game heads alike :)!
About Towa Tei
Japanese-born DJ Towa Tei first earned notice for his production work on the Jungle Brothers' 1989 LP Done by the Forces of Nature; the following year he shot to fame as a member of the downtown New York club trio Deee-Lite, scoring an international hit with the classic "Groove Is in the Heart." After two LP's, 1990's World Clique and 1992's Infinity Within, Towa Tei left the group to begin working on solo projects; his debut LP Future Listening!, a montage of bossa nova, jazz and electronic dance music, appeared in 1995. His second album for Elektra, 1998's Sound Museum, was followed by Last Century Modern in 1999. ~ Jason Ankeny
