Great Retrospective on a Master Songwriter and Poet

Transcendent is the best word I can thing of regarding Bruce Cockburn's catalog. He rarely courts the mainstream and yet there is a universality to his message. Whenever I am stuck he seems to get me unstuck perhaps because his music reminds me that I'm not the only one struggling through the big questions. Bruce doesn't disappoint on any of these tracks. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

a collection, not a real album

This album contains my favorite song ever. Unfortunately, it is not a real album, it is a greatest hits collection. Which is funny since Bruce Cockburn is a serious artist, not a hitmaker. If you're a fan, My Beat, Coldest Night, Waiting for a Miracle, and the title track do not appear on any of his albums (well, Coldest Night is a bonus track on Inner City Front). So buy them. But if you're new to Cockburn, I say buy Humans. It is a very good album that contains elements of two different periods in Cockburn's songwriting.

In 1979, Cockburn had his only major U.S....
