Sometimes, you can always get what you want!

Once again this "Reggae Rocks" series impresses a really tough critic. i dont always enjoy covers versions of rock songs i love, but this like the "Dylan" reggae tribute, pays homage and respect to the amazing songwriting abilities of the Stones. Often overlooked as writers because of their live shows this album shows the deep, and diverse style of the songs of the Rolling Stones. From start to finish the quality of artists/songs gathered for this album is wonderful. Reggae Icons "Toots and the Maytels" stirring ska version of "Start Me Up ' begins this reggae ride, Gregory Isaacs touching version of Wild Horses, The Heptones bouncy and fun take on Satisfaction, and The Gladiators rootsy version of "Time is On My Side" are just some of the reasons that this cd accomplishes what it set out to do. once again like the "Bob Dylan" reggae tribute, i am amazed how i enjoyed some of these reggae covers more than the originals, they take some of these classic songs and turn them into something new and refreshing. The title track "Paint it Black" for instance takes on a new meaning when sung by reggae pioneers Chalice. This album will not dissapoint, and even after many listens still sounds fresh. Highly reccommended for Stones fans this is must for your collection.

Shocked, Surprised and Delighted

Being a Stones fanatic I wasnt expecting much, but having spent my honeymoon in Jamaica I was willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt. Guess what? This a really great album of Stones covers. The songs vary enough from the original to give them excitement, yet stay true to the Stones. I agree with one review that mentioned the Gregory Isaacs "Wild Horses". The Gladiators take it real ols school on "Time is On My Side." Toots never lets up for a second on "Start me Up." You dont have to be in Jamaica, and it doesnt have to be 4:20 to love this one...but?

Start me Up...Baby.

Wow, what can I say Toots and the Maytals Starts this one off with a bang, and it keeps getting better. Gregory Isaacs is classic, The Gladiators take it back to the old school roots on "Time" and my favorite "Steel Pulse" absolutely nail "U cant always get what you want" I spent the week-end listening to this CD and some of the others, and just had to find them when I got back. This Stones tribute is the slickest in the Reggae Rocks series, and if you even remotely like the Stones you will love this CD. Even if u dont like them, these songs all stand up on there reggae alter egos just fine.
