Is Opeth just Prog Rock now, instead of Metal?

The new song definitely sounds more polished than anything on Heritage, but at the same time you can tell its a continuation of what they did there.
They sound like they have abandoned the heavier side of their sound and just become a Rock band instead of Metal....never mind DEATH metal. To me, that's a shame.
I saw them on the Heritage tour and they didn't even play ANY of the heavy songs....just the most mellow song from each album basically. Strange.

Evolved Past

I think opeth peaked with Ghost Reveries and Watershed. Since Heritage the have really dialed down the aggressive aspects of metal. Now they sound like a 70’s prog rock band or stoner rock. Sonically, this album is very good. Material wise, gone are the heavy riffs and haunting melodies contrasted with peaceful passages and lonely solos’. I didn’t start listening to Opeth because they wanted to sound like Yes or King Crimson. Too bad. Though they will likely pick up as many fans as they will lose with this album...
