iTunes Editors’ Notes

Apple O' is Deerhoof's fifth studio concoction but it's the first in which the experimental trio worked with guitarist Chris Cohen as a full-time member. The group is no less streamlined — in fact they even seem tighter on tracks like "My Diamond Star Car" which fuses progressive rock's insane chord changes into an explosive punk rock salvo. This is a fearless album that makes no effort to outstay its welcome (it's just over 30 minutes long). It also contains one of the tracks that has been a staple of their live sets since the album's release — "Panda Panda Panda." This is a defiantly, deceptively simple track that alternates the title phrase with fits and starts of rumbling, free jazz-inspired noise bursts. Challenging at times, often just pretty — this is one of Deerhoof's finest (half) hours.

Resume -but don't start- with

Very good album and Deerhoof's most under-appreciated album. If you like the last 3 albums, especially The Runners Four, you'll definitely want to check this out. Definitely not as accessible as Friend or Maggie. Check out "Dummy..," "Panda x3," "Flower" and "L'Amour Stories."

Oh, and buy on VINYL!
