It just keeps getting better and better with this band. they are so far outside the box it's ridiculous. the Machine and The Vampire is one of the best songs i've heard this year. the rest of the album is amazing. Brilliant.

An ideal roadtrip soundtrack

Simultaneously upbeat and nostalgic, Panorama is an ideal roadtrip soundtrack. At its best (e.g. Strange Kind of Mirror), Panorama sounds like lost tracks from Tom Petty's Wildflowers.

Criminally overlooked band

I've been a fan of these guys since since the beginning (a friend gave me a copy of the EP from the singer/guitarist's former band, Dusky Silo). Their seamless mix of classic country/Laurel Canyon sounds with modern electronics and expert arrangements has always appealed to me. Their albums have impressed me more and more, and this is their best yet. They've really come into their own as songwriters (check "Panorama" and "Strange Kind of Mirror"), and the album just sounds gorgeous.

I can't figure out why these guys aren't huge in the indie scene. With the Blitzen Trappers and My Morning Jackets of the world exploring similar concepts (but with very different results, of course) it seems like this should be their time to shine. I really hope this is the year more people discover this talented group.
