Editors’ Notes

Jimmy Wayne didn't graduate from Vanderbilt and he never competed on Nashville Star or American Idol. The North Carolina native had it rough, growing up in an abusive family where his stepfather opened fire on his sister, paralyzing her before trying to kill Wayne. After running away and living homeless on the streets, he built his life up from scratch, putting real experiences into his country music, which is why the songs on Wayne's self-titled debut sound more substantial than those of many of his bleached smile contemporaries. "Paper Angels" is a gripping prayer for all the abused runaways that Wayne encountered first hand. Similarly, "Blue And Brown" is a soft shuffling autobiographical account of a foster brother who was incarcerated at the prison where Wayne worked as a guard prior to his songwriting success. The single "Stay Gone" is a realistic break-up ballad with mature lyrics admitting that sometimes love just isn't enough. The most powerful tune here may be "The Rabbit," a haunting revenge song with the powerful lyrics, "When the tables turn and they will turn/ Mark my words it ain't gonna be fun/ When the rabbit gets the gun."

Customer Reviews

Simply Excellent!

Everyone should buy this album. Jimmy is a talented artist who uses his voice to paint a vivid canvas that faithfully depicts some of life's most emotional moments: childhood, love, friendship. Wow! I can't wait for his next album.

Jimmy Wayne

I love this album! Jimmy Wayne is such a wonderful artist, he truly speaks from his soul. This album is excellent, its one of the few albums i had listen to without skipping over a song. My personal faves are after you and trespassin. After you is such a good love lost song, its not a typical sounding country song. Trespassin' is full of energy i just love it. Paper Angels is another wonderful song bringing attention to children that have to do without. The entire album is amazing! Jimmy Wayne is going to be the next big superstar!

Speechless

I can't believe how good this guy is - his voice is amazing, and to have someone who can sing AND write like this guy can... wow. "I Love You This Much" made me speechless - I wish everyone in the world could hear it just once! This is how music should be - it changes you for the better...

Years Active: '00s, '10s

By all Nash Vegas accounts, North Carolina singer/songwriter Jimmy Wayne comes from the wrong side of the tracks. Born in 1972, he was abandoned by his father at a young age and raised by a troubled mother and in a series of foster homes when she was in prison. On his 15th birthday he saw his stepfather shoot his stepsister three times, paralyzing her, and survived a murder attempt by the same man. He entered, and then ran from, a county home and became a homeless youth who did what was needed to...
