iTunes Review

Listening to Paradise Outlaw is like wandering through a lush sonic landscape. “Do You Know,” with guest vocals by Amos Lee, is a standout single, but the album's real highlight is the mood it creates. Brown’s sleepy, sultry vocals float along a supple current of lightly strummed acoustic guitars, the heavily reverbed electric guitar of Bo Ramsey, pedal steel, banjo, piano, strings, and subtle drumming. Brown is a superb songwriter with a distinct lyrical style, and her sixth release shows a heightened level of sophistication and finesse. It’s an intimate and accomplished set with a strong emotional pull.

Beautiful voice..romantic soft relaxing. Love every song

Great songs with Depth and Texture

This album has a consistent quality that makes it a great full escape yet each song is worth a solitary listen. To get that earthy introspective Nick Drake vibe, simmering thought provoking Gillian Welch quality songs, drum grooves and lyrical cadence nods to full-band era Bob Dylan and more ethereal Buddy Miller production moments in one record deserves a lot praise! Not to mention her unique use of banjo and characteristic voice that effortlessly glides with relaxed believability in each lyric.
That all happens and could be great if it ended at #10 "Heading Home" but then #11 "Letter In Hand" lets you know you just got the bargain of quality that won't stop showing her versatility w/ haunting bold-spaced blues, "Back to You" another favorite and then two more gorgeously written and produced tracks. Might sound like gushing but this is my favorite record in years. It earned every word. Well done and Thank You!!

With her languid, ethereal delivery, she has weathered numerous comparisons to such singers as the Cowboy Junkies' Margo Timmins. The Iowa City, Iowa native moved in with her mother after her parents' divorce, which occurred when Brown was only two years old. Five years later, after her mother graduated medical school,...
