Editors’ Notes

The first signing to Drake’s OVO Sound imprint, Jahron Brathwaite shares his patron’s taste for high living without sounding as conflicted about it. Across these 13 tracks of alternative R&B, he’s enthusiastic about partying, premium spirits and, repeatedly, women. The beats he produces are more complex pleasures though, and he crafts penetrating hooks from slow, syncopated rhythms and muddy atmospherics. On “Wus Good / Curious” and “Over Here”, it means the party reaches the woozy, head-bending wee hours–and sounds better for it.

He's about to get huge

It's an OVO summer!

Let me just start out by saying that I love Drake! I am Team Drizzy and always will be. I was excited when I found out he signed Party onto OVO Sound. When I first heard 'Make a Mil' I was hooked on him. He is able to combine a new sound with amazing beats. I think it's a bold move to release an album, not a mixtape. He's gonna go far, I can tell. The way he puts his feelings and emotions into music is a great quality of his sound. I wish people would stop saying he is The Weeknd's replacement because he's not. Drake didn't make The Weeknd famous. Drake and The Weeknd aren't fighting and never were so please just respect that Abel is doing his own thing now. Overall, great album and I hope to see more! :) :)

The persona of producer and singer Jahron Brathwaite, PartyNextDoor finds the Toronto-based artist experimenting with a fractured blend of minimal hip-hop and R&B that has drawn natural comparisons to fellow Canadians Drake and the Weeknd. The first artist signed to Drake's Warner Bros.-supported OVO Sound label, Brathwaite made his self-titled debut on the label in July 2013. A low-key release with Drake featured on one cut, it reached number 34 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. A sequel,...
